Information Architect in Norfolk

Information Architect

An Information Architect shares many similarities with a UX Designer in that their core role is to ensure that a digital platform (website, product, app etc.) achieves its core objectives whilst providing users with the most effective, efficient and enjoyable experience as possible. Information Architects require a good understanding of technology and interface design, and an ability to work with account teams and clients to deliver solid digital strategies.

Information Architecture is about providing a balanced solution that answers client's objectives and meets their audience's needs. It requires an ability to listen to everyone's opinion without judgement and devise a balanced approach that meets the needs of all.

The broad responsibility of an Information Architect is to ensure that the structure of the digital platform logically flows from one step to the next, thus providing the user with a good overall experience and limiting the possibility that they stop using the site/platform.

This is a client facing role that involves planning and conducting workshops with clients, working with users, and ultimately shaping architectural solutions, based on research, analysis, and business and users requirements.

The Information Architect is responsible for developing IA documentation (research, audits, personas, site maps, wireframes, user journeys, prototyping, user testing, presentations etc) for all client, project and pitch work. They actively collaborate with creative, technical, strategy and project delivery teams.

Key tools an Information Architect uses include Visio, Photoshop, Axure and Omigraffle.

Key capabilities of an Information Architect include:

  • Understanding of user interface design principles, information design, and web design
  • Knowledge and understanding of business strategy and general digital strategy
  • Comfortable presenting work and justifying strategic IA and User Interface (UI) design decisions
  • Ability to prototype UI concepts
  • Ability to design and run usability research tests; scenarios for A/B and multivariate testing

Salary wise outside of London the role generally pays between £30,000 to £40,000 depending on regional variance and level of experience.
